for using Growing Faith to grow and develop households of faith within
your parish...
Nothing is more
important to the church than growing and developing our households
as "domestic churches.
Invitation
An
excellent way to develop such churches is to offer them a
weekly purpose for gathering and Growing
Faith is that purpose.
Growing
Faith booklets are user-friendly and self-directing.
Households do not need to purchase copies of the Facilitator’s
Guide.
It
works very well to offer household sign up for this process in
the autumn and again shortly after the Christmas holidays.
Gathering
Many
households are not accustomed to gathering for faith sharing and
study. As a parish leader, you can help them by affirming their
efforts and providing useful materials.
Teach
your households to gather on Sunday evenings if possible, for about
two hours. It’s lovely to include a household meal in the process.
Single
folks may be invited to join friends or acquaintances. The parish
may provide a means for single people living alone to meet others
for the purpose of such household based gatherings.
Invite
the children of the home to join right in! Even if they’re a bit
noisy or distracted, by hanging on your skirt or pant leg, they pick
up how important religion is in life.
Break
Open the Word
Each
household gathering should begin with fifteen minutes of breaking
open the word, using the Question of the
Week, which is found on the
whole community catechesis web site, from your local
parish, or in a variety of printed resources.
The
Process
The
best way to proceed, of course, is to start with Growing
Faith booklet one and proceed to the end, thereby getting a
systematic and comprehensive presentation of the Catholic faith and
how to live it in daily life.
But
it may also suit some households to choose from among the ten
suggested courses for Growing
Faith.
The
booklets are self-directing.
Afterward
Encourage
homes to have and maintain a full collection of Growing
Faith booklets of their own. Provide copies of the index
found at the back of the Facilitator’s
Guide. It will help them find answers to questions about the faith.
