Suggestions for using Growing Faith with small Christian communities in your parish and with those seeking follow-up resources for RENEW...

Such communities usually gather in members’ homes on a rotating basis, but some also gather at the parish. The gathering is normally two to three hours long, and follows some course of conversation and study.

Invitation

  • It’s an excellent practice to schedule regular sign up periods for people interested in taking part in small Christian communities.

  • Such communities usually gather in members’ homes on a rotating basis, but some also gather at the parish. The gathering is normally two to three hours long, includes food of some kind, and follows some course of conversation and study.

  • The best way to help non-participants understand the benefits of small community life is through witness. Brief post-communion presentations will reach the largest audience.

  • RENEW was one such small community based process, and using Growing Faith is an excellent way to continue the process after RENEW itself is concluded.

Welcome

  • These communities are a way for everyone to feel welcome in parish life. If possible, child care can be provided to assist single parents on limited incomes to take part.

The Process

  • The session plans presented in Part Three of the Facilitator's Guide can easily be adapted for small community use.

  • The best course for small communities is to begin with Growing Faith booklet 1 and move through them all to the end. This will provide a systematic and comprehensive view of the Catholic faith.

  • But don’t rush the process. Each booklet is filled with teachings and ideas. Take time to move through the explorations and reflections together. Hence, a single booklet may require two or three small community meetings to fully process.

Afterward

  • Encourage members to retain these booklets and return to them again and again. Faith is a life long journey and growing our faith happens little by little. By returning to various parts of the booklets when the right moment arises in one’s journey, faith is nourished and fed.
